Keep saying all the things. And saying—writing— them as beautifully as you do.

And in the clothing sub-topic… we all got that misogynistic stuff - but I thought it was just us singers. And (I’m sad to say) many of us low-key perpetuated it until we could finally hear the collective STAAAHP a decade or so ago. Just today, when responding to an anonymous request from a singer about dressing for grad auditions in her “niche” style, my response was: dress how you wish, with the caveat that I want to be convinced by your performance that you put as much effort into preparing your singing, musicality and communication as you did your outfit!

So hopefully things are getting better.

Love you, woman!

Thank you so much, friend! Love you too!! And 100% with the perpetuating. It kills me to think of how many young women I told to manage their weight 20 years ago. Wish I could get that back.

I miss Susan Webb all the time....her blog, if we had them at that time, and had she wanted to share....would have been a great read too. Great work, Kathy!

“ having fallen hard for the intimacies of art song, of hanging my own breath and fingers on every beautiful word of a poem suspended in music and expanded on the exhalation of a friend.”—this sentence knocked my socks off. Thank you for expressing it so eloquently!
